ASUU STIRKE: ASUU STILL CONSULTING - OGUNYEMI

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are yet to conclude consultations with there members on the agreement Federal Government presented.

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who spoke during an interview with the press on Thursday in Abuja, said that the union was still consulting.

NAN call to mind that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, on Monday met the lecturers on strike at a reconciliatory meeting.

Ngige said they have reached some agreement, that Federal Government had released 15.4 billion naira for the payment of the salary shortage, that was one of the major demands of the union.

He said; On salaries issue in tertiary institutions especially universities, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant General, provided evidence that as at December 31 2018, the Federal Government had remitted 15.4 billion naira.

He also said on the issue of Earned Allowances in the universities system, they also showed us evidence that President Buhari has approved the 20 naira billion to be used to balance out the outstanding arrears of the 2009 and 2012 audit verified earnings, in the university system.
